Kambiya Cooperative is located in TA Chimwala, in Mangochi district. For the past two years, the Cooperative focused on commercial maize production, though they were facing numerous issues involving the fluctuating maize market prices and bulk storage.
After having been trained on the ACE Marketing School by the Mangochi ACE Rural Marketing Advisor, the Cooperative was convinced to diversify their markets and produce by growing maize, groundnuts and soya beans for the 2019/2020 season. The ACE Marketing School is a two to three day intensive training to encourage farmers to adopt ACE services, with a specific focus on the importance of aggregation and collective marketing.
Kambiya Cooperative managed to sell 3MT of soya beans through ACE and made 750,000MK from the sale. The group also has 5MT of CG7 groundnuts, which they are expecting to sell soon, and are queued for a maize market with WFP.
The farmers are grateful for ACEs training, as without it farmers would still be producing only maize, and waiting for a maize market alone. Furthermore they are grateful to ACE for assisting them to find a good market for their soya. The Cooperative expects to make tremendous profits compared to the previous years when they only produced maize.
